Landscape Urbanism
Our Mid-Atlantic region’s
great cities struggle with disinvestment and de-industrialization.
The cities’ rich cultural and historic legacy wears away
both physically, and also in America’s cultural memory. Powerful
economic and political forces within our nation consciously reject
an urban heritage of diversity, pluralism, and popular participation.
At Brenton Associates, Inc. we celebrate the diversity and pluralism
of urban life. Landscape Urbanism provides the theoretical basis
on many of our design projects. Landscape urbanism
is a sensibility, a place on which to stand and view the phenomena
of
site. We
discover and articulate landscape urbanism’s latent aesthetic.
Prominent elements of this landscape urbanist aesthetic are its
interest in seams, ‘hidden wonders’, and industrial
age artifacts.
Our
practice celebrates the diversity and pluralism of urban life.
Engaging
in dialogue with our clients, we assist them
in articulating a satisfying aesthetic expression.
Many of our projects have involved the restoration
or conservation of existing landscapes. Our land planning
practice is enriched by these same principles of urbanism and
community.
