Sustainable Landscape
Design
The
work of Brenton Associates is
guided by a commitment to environmental stewardship. The
following stewardship principles guide our work:
- Preserve and enhance existing cultural and infrastructure
resources. Revitalize existing cities and towns. Honor
this rich cultural legacy.
- Encourage pedestrians and cyclists. Sidewalks and paths
are visible from the street. Street trees and lighting
are well designed.
- Preservation of valuable trees and woodland and other
significant natural features is an integral part of the
design process.
- Plant materials are appropriate to the site's cultural
conditions. Plantings are drought tolerant. Never use invasive
species.
- Applying the principles of low impact development, Brenton
Associates are discovering aesthetically satisfying ways
to fit storm water practices into the fabric of communities
- Due consideration is given to environmental and life-cycle
costs in the specification of construction materials.
- Energy consumption is minimized by the appropriate siting
of buildings, shade trees and windbreaks.
